Lesson I learn from cooking...

blogger-emoticon.blogspot.comOn a scale of 1 to 10 how well you rate your cooking?blogger-emoticon.blogspot.com

Hmm... This is a question i ponder a lot on as well. I ask people to rate on my behalf and the reply i get is vary with different groups of people. Some say my cooking is deliciousblogger-emoticon.blogspot.com but there are some that say my cooking should not be seen or eaten by peopleblogger-emoticon.blogspot.com. Since there is such a wide gap on how well i cook i suppose i can rate myself a 2=Bad cook!blogger-emoticon.blogspot.com and a 8=Well rounded cook.blogger-emoticon.blogspot.comblogger-emoticon.blogspot.com

Why do i rate myself so you ask? I realized the people that rate me a two are those who taste dishes which are my own creationblogger-emoticon.blogspot.com. Due to my lack of culinary knowledge, the success rate when i cook ala "freestyle" is only 40%. I cannot deny this because there were cases where i had a upset tummy after eating my own creation, "Steamed EGG and Maggi"blogger-emoticon.blogspot.com.(food poisoning)

Then again, when i do a bit of homework and change a bit here and there on a existing reciepe, the success rate is 85%!!!blogger-emoticon.blogspot.com So after testing this theory a few times, i found out i indeed do cook better when i follow instruction instead of freestyling... Now more and more people are praising my cooking!!!!!!blogger-emoticon.blogspot.com, but i still have to convince those who rate me 2 to change their minds. (Assuming they dare to try my cooking again)blogger-emoticon.blogspot.com

This is an example of cooking without fully following instructions....

Gone to experiment some more in the kitchen...

*Sigh* it's so hard to please everyone...

Today I learnt a valuable lesson... "There is just no pleasing everyone"

Me and my classmates are assigned to do a business proposal to start up a coffee Shop as our coursework, so due to my creative flair =) (Or maybe i'm the only person in the group who can use Photoshop ) I was assigned to create the business logo for our coffee shop that is named "Coffee Heaven".

Before starting, i asked them;
(Names were changed to protect their identity)
*Walau, I feel like some top secret agent sioK!*

G-Devil: So how do you all imagine the logo to look like?

Stuart : Well the shop is called Coffee Heaven... So i guess there will be some picture related to Heaven?

Pong: Coffee shop must use coffee bean as a logo la!

Ceng: Then we put wing lo, make it look like angel.

Yam: Yeah! Then give it a halo also to complete it!

G-Devil: *uh huh, making mental note* ok i will try my best...

Before i even finish the logo, i have already "Constructive" criticism NOT ;

Pong:Eh? Why our logo looks like Starbuck"s logo?

G-Devil: It's cos when we see a coffee shop logo we will associate it with a round shaped logo.Like "starbuck's", "Coffee bean" and "tea leaf" and "Oldtown"

When i showed them the finished product;

G-Devil: Ok guys! The logo is finished. Come take a look!
*A moment of silence*

G-Devil: So? how is this? Satisfied?

Cheng: Wo... The logo looks too "metal" de..

Yam: Yeah the logo is nice but the wings make it look scary...

Stuart: Yeah.. try a different wing. Something cuter...*Sketch the shape of wings he wanted*

G_Devil: huh? It looks a bit kiddish but I will try to change it..

Few minutes later...

G-Devil: OK! Logo version 2.0!

Yam: Umm... The coffee bean looks like it died and going to heaven...*Uanimous agreement*

G-Devil: What? But i follow like how you all described it! Fine.. I will try again...

Version 3.0

G-Devil: So how is this? Like Starbuck's we put a picture of something not related to coffee.

Everybody: NO!

Cheng: It looks like the signboard found at the toilet... Change again.

A few grumbles and more alterations...

G-Devil: this?

Yam: Hmm... Not bad, but the handle is in the way of the wings.

G-Devil: I can erase away the handle...

Pong: Then it won't look like a coffee cup anymore... Any other ideas...

*Sigh* A few minutes later...

Stuart: Here, maybe we change the cup to a 3D one...*Google Search for "coffee cup"*

G-Devil: There.. Done. But the cup handle is still in the way though.

Yam: Doesn't matter la! It loks great like this...

(Whispering of agreements)

G-Devil: *in his mind* When G-Devil does it, its just not quite rite. But when Stuart does it is a masterpiece? *Grumbling*

It's not that i'm not happy bout Stuart. In fact i'm overjoyed i don't have to alter anymore. I just like to complain silently to myself. No biggie...

There you have it... The moral of the day is," No matter what you do, Its never good enough to satisfied everyone. So Don't bother trying"

Departed some of his wisdom;

It took me one night to finish colouring the damn thing...

Due to my inexperience in using photoshop i took 5 hours to complete what other savvy photoshopper will only take 1 hour to finish. Any just tell me what you think about it....

Does Flour+ Egg+ Water= Cake?

No, "Flour+ Egg+ Water does not equal a cake". Many people can comprehend this statement, yet they still believe that "Good Grades+ Degree+ Well paid Job= Success in life", which is exactly the same thing as the formula for making cake.

Many a time i hear my mom quote," Son, you must study hard and get a good job to be successful in life so that you wouldn't be looked down by others". As a child i just took her advice at face value and did my best to follow that principal, however as i grow older, i beginning to doubt those words... Will having a good grade guarantee me a job? which is more important? a well paid job or a high level of satisfaction job?

As i approach closer and closer to joining the work force soon. I began to think of this issue more... What is it i really want to do with my life? Do i want to continue study to be at par with everybody's qualification or is working experience and soft skills more valuable in the workforce. I had my life planned to the point where i will graduate from a higher learning institution, but after that, What next?

Pondering on his questions;
